As well as a cotbed a toddler bed is a great stepping stone between a cot and a proper bed.
A toddler bed is just like a normal bed but has some small rails at the top of the bed (where the pillow is). This adds a little more protection for when the toddler first uses the bed and prevents any accidents such as rolling out of bed, the rails can be easily removed when the toddler no longer needs them and so they make an excellent first bed. Whether you go for a toddler bed or cotbed depends on how you feel the child will cope with either option, a toddler bed is more grown up than a cotbed but requires buying two different beds at the end of the day.
